Lemon Balm: A Gentle Herbal Hug for the Nervous System.

✨ Why I Love Lemon Balm

If summer had a flavor, I think it would taste like Lemon Balm. Light, lemony, and just the right amount of sweet, this humble herb is one of my favorite allies for soothing the nervous system and supporting emotional balance.

I tend to reach for this herb more in the summer months and it's all because of how refreshing this can be during the hot weather. It can be really good in cocktails, salads, and teas.

🌿 Herbal Benefits of Lemon Balm

Lemon balm is a go to for me when it comes to being a therapist. I lean on this to help me destress during some of my longer days in the office. Along with destress it comes with so many benefits that can help anyone!

  • Supports the nervous system, digestive system, and immune system.
  • Traditionally used for anxiety, stress, grief
  • Offers cooling Ayurveda properties to reduce internal heat in the summer.
  • May help with burnout, sleep issues, or being overwhelmed.

Lemon Balm is known for calming the nervous system, supporting restful sleep, and easing digestive upset — especially when linked to stress.

☀️ Summer (or Seasonal) Support

In Ayurveda, lemon balm is considered to be cooling and helpful for Pitta imbalances. This means it is helpful with soothing the internal heat for people in the summer! So anyone who is Pitta dominant needs to invest into adding a soothing Lemon Balm tea to their day.

Lemon Balm Calming Tea Recipe

This tea is perfect for winding down after a long day, or even sipping midday when you need a mental reset.

Ingredients:

  • 1–2 tablespoons dried Lemon Balm (or a small handful of fresh leaves)
  • 1 teaspoon dried Chamomile (optional, for extra relaxation)
  • 1 teaspoon dried Lavender (optional, for nervous system support)
  • 8 oz hot water
  • Raw honey or lemon (optional, to taste)

Instructions:

  1. Place the herbs in a tea infuser or jar.
  2. Pour 8 oz of hot water over the herbs.
  3. Cover and steep for 10–15 minutes.
  4. Strain, sweeten if desired, and enjoy slowly.

☀️ Chill It for Summer: You can also brew a larger batch and chill it in the fridge for a cooling, herbal iced tea. Add a sprig of fresh mint or a slice of cucumber for an extra-refreshing twist

Holistic Tip: Pair with Breathwork

When you sip this tea, try pairing it with a simple breathing practice:

  • Inhale for 4 counts
  • Hold for 4
  • Exhale for 6
  • Repeat for a few minutes as you sip and settle

Lemon Balm is also gentle enough for kids and works beautifully in tinctures, infused honeys, or as part of your moon-time ritual.
