How to start Yoga at Home

So you want to start your own yoga practice at home? Or have you started your own practice before and ended up bailing to watch Netflix instead? Well same here....sometimes I do not hold myself as accountable as I should, but I have found ways around this more recently and I am here to share all the tips!

So first things first....you need a space you love to be in. You do not need an entire room dedicated to yoga, but somewhere in your home that brings you joy and makes you want to be in that space. Here is a look at mine,

This is an entire room, but it doubles as my virtual therapy office so win win.

Okay we have a space picked out and an idea of space in our house.

Our next step is going to be getting supplies needed for yoga.

  1. Yoga Mat
  2. Yoga Blocks
  3. Yoga Straps.
  4. Yoga Bolsters

JUST KIDDING.

To practice yoga you do not need fancy equipment no matter how much someone on the internet is telling you to get. You can buy a cheap mat at Tjmaxx or Marshalls, but honestly I have done yoga without a mat on my carpet and had no issues. So if you are new and do not want to commit to buying a ton of yoga equipment, don't. Find a towel at home or a cheap mat at Tjmaxx. You can replace yoga blocks with literally anything. I have used my water bottle, a pillow, a book, or really anything that can be used to bring the ground closer to you. I am a huge fan of using what I have until I absolutely need it.

Now I hope you are still following me, because this is the best part. You have all the things you need tp practice yoga. My biggest tips for you are

  1. Find someone on YouTube to follow or if you attend yoga classes try and bring those flows home with you. I offer one on one sessions if you want to have a flow made for you and your specific goals, just reach out to me.
  2. NEVER skip savasana. This is "corpse" pose. If you practice for an hour try and lay in corpse pose for around 5-10 minutes. this can be hard for newer yogis since sitting with your thoughts can be a little challenging at first, but you adjust.

So wow. You have everything you need to practice yoga at home. This is a more open and honest conversation about yoga at home. I read many articles suggesting the most expensive mats or that someone needs ALL the things, but really all you need is space for yourself to find peace.

I hope you enjoy your at home practice :)
