Abhyanga Practice

Ayurveda is a complicated thing when you first start looking into it. I mean doshas, herbs, oil pulling, huge lifestyle changes. It can be so overwhelming. Lucky for you, I am learning what things are worth the time and what things are not worth the time. I am also going to be giving you new ideas for lifestyle changes that could be super helpful for you!
I would not recommend changing your lifestyle 100% at one time. That is seriously crazy to even attempt. I mean have you ever started to build healthy habits and just adding one thing can be exhausting. Who knew that trying to journal everyday could be so time consuming and difficult. (you should see my struggles with writing blogs LOL) But really it can be so difficult to break old habits and start new healthy habits. So I am going to let you see into my life trying to break some of my bad habits and start incorporating more Ayurvedic habits in to my life.
My first big addition is to start Abhyanga.... I know crazy word. Abhyanga is the term for lovingly oiling the body. Sanskrit word sneha translates to “oil” and/or “love”, therefore, snehana “to oil oneself”, also means “to love oneself”.
This seems like a weird thing, but this has been a life changing addition for me. I have been doing this for a little over a month with a body oil that matches my vata dosha. In Ayurveda, this practice is supposed to help give you a sense of strength and wellbeing, along with the physical benefits of increasing circulation, improving skin tone & balance, increasing stamina, calming the nerves, counteracts the effects of aging and cultivates self-love.
I practice this before taking a shower after I dry brush or I use Garshana gloves during it.
Let me lay it out for you:
1. Run the bottle of oil under warm/hot water until you feel like the oil is warm enough.
2. Start massaging the oil into your skin for about 10-15 minutes. (I start on my legs. Massage the oil towards the heart from whatever part of the body you are working on).
3. Once you have went over your entire body, try and let the oil stay on your skin for as long as you can. Once you feel ready to rinse, take a warm bath or shower to get the oil off.
If you do not have the Garshana gloves you can simply dry brush your body beforehand. You can get dry brushes at ulta, target, Walmart, amazon. The gloves are linked if you want to check them out.
I will link some of my favorite places to get oils for Abhyanga below that I love.
This Tridosha Oil is perfect if you do not know your dosha or just want to find one to use daily.
This sight has options for larger amounts of body oil that are for each dosha. They have a quiz you can take to find out the best option for you. Use Code: Taylor15 for an extra discount
I hope you enjoy adding this into your routine :)
